IPL 2023: CSK Batting Coach Mike Hussey Opens Up On MS Dhoni’s Retirement Plans, Says Only He Knows

New Delhi: It has been doing the rounds in social media and all over the cricketing fraternity that India’s most successful captain, MS Dhoni is all set to bid adieu from the gentleman’s game. Directly and indirectly, he has dropped big hints but nothing is confirmed as of now.

Mike Hussey, the current batting coach of the Chennai Super Kings revealed that he hasn’t spoken with him about his retirement and whether Dhoni is playing his last IPL or not, only the man himself knows.

“That is the thing we have not spoken about. Whether he is playing his last IPL or not only he knows. We have no idea. He is hitting sixes and finishing off games,” Hussey said in the pre-match conference ahead of the DC vs CSK match.

Hussey is quite satisfied with Dhoni’s batting so far in the season. Thala has played lower down the order and have played the role of a finisher. He so far scored 98 runs with an average of 49.

“From my point of view as a batting coach, he is still batting really well. He is still motivated to keep coming into the training and working on his game, he is hitting the ball well. We have seen him lighting up the innings and finish things off really well. He has still got that six-hitting ability. So, while he is enjoying it and still contributing to the team, then there is no reason why he cannot keep going, maybe for another 5 years (chuckles)… we do not know it is all up to MS,” he added.

Rafael Nadal Withdraws From French Open, Likely To Call Time On Tennis Career In 2024

Paris: Rafael Nadal announced Thursday that he is pulling out of the French Open because of a lingering hip injury, and he expects 2024 to be the final season of his career. The owner of a record 14 championships at the clay-court Grand Slam tournament will miss it for the first time since making his debut there in 2005.

Nadal, who turns 37 next month, delivered the news of his withdrawal — and future plans — during a news conference at his tennis academy in Manacor, Spain. He said he does not want to set a date for his return to the tennis tour, but expects it to take months.

And then, the 22-time Grand Slam champion added: “You never know how things will turn out, but my intention is that next year will be my last year.”

Play begins at Roland Garros in Paris on May 28. Nadal has a career record of 112-3 across 18 appearances at the French Open, a level of dominance unmatched by any man or woman at any Grand Slam event in the long annals of a sport that dates to the 1800s.

When Nadal won the trophy last year at age 36 while dealing with chronic foot pain, he became the oldest champion in tournament history. He said he is not sure that taking more time off now will give him a real chance of coming back next season in competitive form, but explained that he knows he can’t keep trying to force his body back into match condition now.

“I am going to stop, I am not going to train. I am not ready to train,” Nadal said, alternating answers in Spanish and English. “These have been many months with many moments of frustration, and I can handle frustration, but there comes a time when you have to stop.”

Nadal’s birthday is June 3, when ordinarily he might have been playing his third-round match in Court Philippe Chatrier. Instead, he will be out of action, just as he has been for most of this season.

The Spaniard hasn’t competed anywhere since he lost to Mackie McDonald in the second round of the Australian Open on Jan. 18, when his movement clearly was restricted by a bothersome left hip flexor. That was Nadal’s earliest Grand Slam exit since 2016.

An MRI exam the next day revealed the extent of the injury, and his manager said at the time that Nadal was expected to need up to two months to fully recover. He initially aimed to return at the Monte Carlo Masters in March on his beloved red clay, but he wasn’t able to play there, then subsequently sat out tournament after tournament, decreasing the likelihood that he would be ready for the French Open.

Nadal is just 1-3 this season. He has dropped seven of his past nine matches overall, dating to a fourth-round loss to Frances Tiafoe in the U.S. Open’s fourth round last September.

It is one thing for Nadal to lose more frequently, and in earlier rounds, than he usually has over the course of his illustrious career — one in which his 22 major titles are tied with rival Novak Djokovic for the most by a man, and includes 92 trophies in all, along with more than 1,000 tour-level match wins.

It is another thing entirely for Nadal to be missing from Roland Garros, where he has appeared 18 times, every year since he won it as a teen in 2005. He also was the champion in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022.

That’s why tennis players often refer to facing Nadal at the French Open as the toughest task in sports. Amid all of the triumphs there, the setbacks certainly were infrequent.

Nadal dropped out of the field before the third round in 2016 because of an injured wrist, and was eliminated by another player three times: Those losses came against Robin Soderling in the fourth round in 2009, against Djokovic in the quarterfinals in 2015, then again against Djokovic in the semifinals in 2021.

This year, Nadal will be absent right from the start from his favorite event — and one where he generally is regarded as the favorite to win, no matter what.

“You can’t keep demanding more and more from your body, because there comes a moment when your body raises a white flag,” said Nadal, who sat alone on a stage, wearing jeans and a white polo shirt during his news conference, which was carried live in Spain by the state broadcaster’s 24-hour sports network.

“Even though your head wants to keep going, your body says this is as far it goes.”

IPL 2023: Sikander Raza Rates Sri Lanka’s Young Pacer Matheesha Pathirana Higher Than Lasith Malinga

“Pathirana is a quality talent. I remember that (Lasith) Malinga was hard enough to face but Pathirana is just a bit trickier. His arm comes lower. Malinga was side on, I remember. On that wicket, with those cutters and his 145kph pace, you just didn’t know what’s coming,” said Raza.

“Alhamdulillah, to be able to score those runs! I was just trying to find a boundary so I was lucky to get those three runs. I hit it into a gap. I guess when it’s your day, luck favours you in weird ways,” added the Punjab Kings star.

MS Dhoni Obliges to Sunil Gavaskar’s Request of an Autograph After KKR Beat CSK at Chepauk; PIC Goes VIRAL

Chennai: MS Dhoni knows how to win hearts and that is the reason why is the most popular cricketer of the generation. After Kolkata beat Chennai on Sunday night by six wickets, former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar asked Dhoni for an autograph. Obliging to Gavaskar’s request, Dhoni took it a step further and signed on the former’s shirt. The bromance between Dhoni and Gavaskar was pure gold. The picture of the event is being loved by fans across the world.

Here is the picture that is now going viral and drawing reactions:

“One of those days when you win the toss and bat first and the moment the first ball was bowled in the second innings, you realise it is a 180 wicket. Batting first I don’t think we could have got anywhere close to 180. I think the dew made a big difference. If you compare the first innings to the second innings, there was a lot more purchase for the spinners in the first innings and that’s what really got to us,” said Dhoni at the post-match presentation.

Earlier, KKR captain Nitish Rana and middle-order star Rinku Singh slammed critical fifties and dominated spinners with immaculate ease to help Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) stay alive in the race for Playoffs in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 with a clinical six-wicket win. With the win, KKR keep their playoff hopes alive.

Highlights DC vs PBKS, IPL 2023 Score: Punjab Kings Beat Delhi Capitals By 31 Runs

AS IT HAPPENED | Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings, IPL 2023 Match 57, Score

New Delhi: Prabhsimran Singh’s maiden century, followed by clinical efforts from bowlers helped Punjab Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 31 runs in Match No. 59 and knock them out of the playoffs race in the ongoing season 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, here on Saturday.

Opener Prabhsimran Singh’s brilliant maiden IPL century (103 off 65) guided Punjab Kings to a competitive 167/7 in 20 overs. Punjab were struggling at 45/3 but Prabhsimran stitched a vital stand of 72 runs off 54 balls for the fourth wicket with Sam Curran to get them out of trouble. On the other hand, Ishant Sharma was the most successful bowler for Delhi Capitals with his 2-27.

Chasing a fighting total, Delhi Capitals were off to a flying start, scoring 65/0 after six overs courtesy of Warner’s attacking approach. Warner came out all guns blazing hitting Rishi Dhawan for back-to-back boundaries in the very first over.

The Australian didn’t spare anything whether it was the pace of Nathan Elis, Sam Curran, Arshdeep Singh and the spin of Harpreet Brar, hitting the new ball to all parts of the ground and making the target of 168 look like a cakewalk. On the other hand, Philip Salt also found occasional boundaries as Delhi were cruising towards the target quite comfortably.

It was Brar, who eventually gave Punjab their first breakthrough in the 7th over by removing Salt (21). However, Warner continued his aggressive intent and reached his 60th fifty in the IPL off 23 balls.

Though Warner was going strong, he didn’t get support from the other end with Mitchell Marsh and Rilee Rossouw getting out cheaply against Punjab spinners. Eventually, Warner (54 off 27) also got to Harpreet Brar in the 9th over, which started Delhi Capitals downslide in the run-chase.

The likes of Axar Patel and Manish Pandey also didn’t grab the opportunity to shine, getting out without showing any fight and leaving Delhi Capitals at 88/6 after 10.1 overs.

Lower down the order, the likes of Aman Hakim Khan (16), Praveen Dubey (16) and Kuldeep Yadav (10 not out) tried but their efforts were not enough as Delhi Capitals were restricted to 136/8 in 20 overs.

Harpreet Brar (4-30), Rahul Chahar (2-16), and Nathan Ellis (2-26) were successful bowlers for Punjab Kings.

Brief scores: Punjab Kings 167/7 in 20 overs (Prabhsimran 103, Sam Curran 20; Ishant 2-27) beat Delhi Capitals 136/8 in 20 Overs (David Warner 54, Philip Salt 21; Harpreet Brar 4-30, Rahul Chahar 2-16) by 31 runs.

IPL 2023: Heinrich Klaasen Fined; Amit Mishra Reprimanded For Breaching Code of Conduct

Hyderabad, May 13: Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen was fined 10% of his match fee, while Lucknow Super Giants’ Amit Mishra was reprimanded for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Saturday’s match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday.

Klaasen has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee after admitting to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.7 which states the use of public criticism/inappropriate comment in the IPL’s Code of Conduct.

Article 2.7 states, “Without limitation, Players and Team Officials will breach Article 2.7 if they publicly criticise the Match Officials or denigrate a Player or Team against which they have played in relation to incidents which occurred in a Match.”

“When assessing the seriousness of the breach, without limitation, the context within which the comments have been made and the gravity of the offending comments must be taken into account.”

The breach seems to have been caused by Klaasen saying in a mid-innings chat with the broadcasters, “Some not-so-great umpiring decisions being made but that’s part of the game and you have to get over it and go on with life,” while talking about crowd disruption in innings caused for nearly 10 minutes after a no-ball was reversed by Lucknow on review.

On the other hand, Mishra admitted to a level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of IPL’s Code of Conduct which states the abuse of equipment during the match, with the veteran leg-spinner accepting the sanction.

Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board.

The incident in question could be Mishra banging the ball on the field out of frustration after taking out Anmolpreet Singh, who had hit him for a six on the previous ball of the ninth over of Hyderabad’s innings. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.

Posting 182/6 on board wasn’t sufficient for Hyderabad despite Klaasen and Abdul Samad adding 58 runs for the sixth wicket as Prerak Mankad, Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis changed gears in a display of unbelievable big-hitting to take Lucknow to a seven-wicket victory with four balls to spare.

On a pitch with some turn for spinners, where Lucknow captain Krunal Pandya took 2/24, Mankad top-scored with an unbeaten 64 off 45 balls to be the anchor of the chase, Pooran was at his blazing best to be 44 not out off 13 balls while Stoinis made up for a slow start to score 40 off 25 balls.

Stoinis and Pooran were pivotal in bringing the turning point of the match, smashing 31 runs in the 16th over bowled by Abhishek Sharma. With the win ending their three-game winless streak, Lucknow are now in fourth place in the points table with 13 points, while Hyderabad’s Playoffs hopes are now tricky with eight points.

IPL 2023: Suryakumar Yadav Sends Social Media Into Frenzy After Slamming Maiden IPL Century Against Gujarat Titans

Mumbai: Suryakumar Yadav was unstoppable against Gujarat Titans on Friday as Mr. 360 degree took the entire social media by storm after smashing his maiden century in the Indian Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium.

SKY was literally on cloud 9 as he stitched an unbeaten 49-ball 103, which included 11 boundaries and 6 sixes. Apart from Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Vishnu Vinod added valuable runs to take Mumbai Indians to 218/5 after 20 overs of play.

In the last 7 innings, he has scored 413 runs at an average of 68.33, striking at a rate of 202.45. He now has 4 fifties and 1 hundred in the ongoing season.

His innings also prompted Virat Kohli to put up an Insta story about him.

”We have seen 200+ have been chased here, but SKY was unbelievable. It is hard to bowl to him and some of the shots he played were unbelievable”, Gujarat Titans’ Rashid Khan heaped praise on SKY at the mid-innings break.

Virat Kohli Heaps High Praise For Yashasvi Jaiswal After Rajasthan Royals Star Destroys KKR

Kolkata: When Yashasvi Jaiswal is batting, everybody becomes his fan, so much so as even Virat Kohli. The Rajasthan Royals opener scored the fastest Indian Premier League fifty on Thursday at Eden Gardens guiding his team to a emphatic nine-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders.

Chasing below-par 150, Jaiswal blazed away to an unbeaten 47-ball 98 as Rajasthan Royals romped home with 41 balls to spare and enter the top four race in the points table. Kolkata Knight Riders scored 149 for eight after being asked to bat first.

“Wow, this is some of he best batting I have seen in while. What a talent @yashasvijaiswal28,” Kohli wrote on his Instagram story with a photo of the man in form.

Jaiswal started with 26 runs from the first over bowled by Nitish Rana that included two sixes and three fours. The set the tone for his batting as Jaiswal never looked to stop the onslaught and hit the opposition all around the park.

Although he lost his opening partner Jos Buttler in the second over, Jaiswal was pretty clear in his mind what he needs to do. He went from strength to strength and was two runs shy of what could have been a terrific century.

Meanwhile, Jaiswal is one of the three players to have scored a century in IPL 2023. KKR;s Venkatesh Iyer and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Harry Brook are the other two.

It was a nice feeling today. It is not like everything I wanted happens, I prepare well and I trust in myself. I know the results will come. The winning shot was a great feeling, I wanted to finish the game and winning the game has been my motto. I’m blessed and grateful, I’m trying my best,” Jaiswal said after the match.

KKR Vs RR: Yashasvi Jaiswal Overtakes KL Rahul To Record Fastest Indian Premier League Fifty

Kolkata: Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scripted the fastest fifty in an Indian Premier League match when he completed his half-century in just 13 balls against Kolkata Knight Rides at the Eden Gardens on Thursday.

Already having scored his maiden IPL hundred earlier in the tournament, Jaiswal destroyed the hosts from the first over itself, hitting opposition skipper Nitish Rana for two sixes and three fours.

Although his opening partner Jos Buttler was run out in the second over, Jaiswal contonued his onslaughtv by hitting Harshit Rana and Shardul Thakur for five more fours to bring up his half-century in just 13 balls.

Jaiswal just bettered the records of KL Rahul and Pat Cummins who completed their fifties in 14 balls. While Rahul’s (PBKS) fifty came against Delhi Capitals in 2018, then KKR all-rounder Cummins achieved the feat against Mumbai Indians in the previous year.

Jaiswal blazed away to an unbeaten 47-ball 98 as Rajasthan Royals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by nine wickets. Kolkata Knight Riders scored 149 for eight after being asked to bat first.

Venkatesh Iyer top-scored for KKR with 57 off 42 balls after openers Jason Roy (10) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (18) could not convert their starts at the Eden Gardens, both falling to seasoned left-arm pacer Trent Boult.

In-form leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal finished with excellent figures of 4/25, continuing his fine run of form. In reply, RR completed the chase in 13.1 overs. Sanju Samson smashed 48 off 29 balls.
